ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN

LK Shields Solicitors is one of Ireland’s leading commercial law firms.
The Library provides traditional Library, research and current awareness services for staff at the firm, who number over 150. In addition, the Library is also involved in knowledge management, the firm’s website, the firm’s Intranet and the organisation of internal seminars.

We wish to recruit a full-time Assistant Librarian to assist and support the Librarian/Information Officer in the delivery of Library services.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to further their career in a demanding and varied Library and Information role.

Essential requirements

• A good-quality primary degree
• A recognised qualification in Library and / or Information Studies
• Experience of work in a Library environment
• High standard of written and spoken English language skills

Overview of Responsibilities

The Assistant Librarian will be exposed to a range of Library and Information work at different levels.

The responsibilities entail general Library maintenance and administrative work. This will include general filing, looseleaf filing, photocopying, data entry and shelving etc.

It will also involve:

• Data entry: updating and maintaining the Intranet and other internal records, spreadsheets and databases
• Current awareness: monitoring developments relevant to the firm
• Circulation and return of Library materials
• Cataloguing and Classification
• Organising the binding of periodicals
• Dealing with publishers and external service providers
• Processing of invoices and dealing with accounts
• Assisting with the organisation of seminars
• Responding to queries from Library users
• Providing training for Library users and producing guides to the
Library’s resources
• Research assistance
• Proofreading
• Other duties as may be assigned and / or required

• Ability to work under pressure of business requirements and
to meet deadlines
• Use of initiative in the workplace
• Ability to interpret text
• Ability to take an interest in, and become familiar with, the law,
legal terminology and legislation
• Ability to evaluate print and electronic texts and information sources
