The Irish Human Rights Commission (IHRC) was established under the Human Rights Commission Acts 2000 & 2001. The Acts set out the Commission’s powers and functions conferring on it a wide-ranging remit to promote and protect human rights as defined both in international agreements to which Ireland is a party and in the Irish Constitution. The Commission consists of fifteen members and is independent of Government. It now wishes to invite applications for the provision of the following services on a 2 year contract basis:
LIBRARY ASSISTANT
(16 hrs per week approx.)
This contract is to oversee the provision of quality library and information services to the Staff and Commissioners of the IHRC including:
Cataloguing and classifying new and current material within the library
Continuing the expansion and maintenance of the library catalogue
Managing the print and electronic journal collection
Sourcing and evaluating appropriate material for the library collection including journal titles, electronic resources and other printed material
Assisting Staff and Commissioners with research queries
Maintaining good order of the Commission library
Applicants must hold or be pursuing a professional/academic qualification in Librarianship and/or Information Science/Studies or hold or be pursuing a qualification which would be acceptable to the Commission as equivalent.
They should also be highly motivated, innovative and flexible; possess strong administrative and excellent communication skills and be capable of working under their own initiative.
Previous experience of legal librarianship is desirable.

This Contract will be awarded on the basis of a 2 year Contract for Services. The successful contractor will not be a member of staff of the Commission.
