SLARI (School Library Association of Ireland) will be having their annual conference on November 24th from 9.30am to 3.30pm. It will take place in the Church of Ireland College of Education on Upper Rathmines Road and this year’s theme is Self-directed Learning: School libraries supporting the curriculum. The conference is open to anyone with an interest in Information Literacy and its practical use at all educational levels and further details can be obtained from our website www.slari.ie or from ivory.aileen@Alexandra College.ie
Additionally this year, there will be an evening reception on Friday 23rd November at the Church of Ireland College of Education to celebrate the launch our website with special guest Gervase Phinn, President of the SLA. Speakers will include:
Valerie Coghlan: President of the IBBY Ireland, Valerie is also Librarian at The Church of Ireland College of Education, Dublin. She lectures on children’s literature and on school libraries at CICE, St Patrick’s College (Drumcondra) D C U, and University College Dublin and has published articles in books and journals in Ireland and abroad.
Ellen Breen: Head of Information and Public Services at Dublin City University Library, she is the chairperson of the CONUL (Consortium of National and University Libraries) Working Group on Information Skills and member of the All Ireland Society of Higher Education.
Hal O’Neill: Representing the NCCA, Hal will put forward the case for curriculum reform and independent learning at primary and 2nd level
