The Irish Times Health Supplement yesterday featured a piece on bibliotherapy, including an interview with HSE senior psychologist Elaine Martin, who was involved in Dublin City Public Libraries’ pioneering bibliotherapy scheme in 2007.

Ms Martin was also involved in the Power of Words scheme launched by An Chomhairle and the IGGP in 2009.

Bibliotherapy schemes are provided by many public library services around the country, with Cork County Libraries being the latest the launch a scheme as reported in the current edition of Irish Library News.

The Power of Words book list may be downloaded from An Chomhairle’s website.

logo for UK's National Libraries DayThe website for the UK’s National Libraries Day is now live at http://www.nationallibrariesday.org.uk/.

The site has ideas for libraries who wish to get involved as well as videos and downloadable resources.

Just last week the LAI announced that Library Ireland Week in 2012 will be held in November: the week was marked in March in 2011 and previous years.

TCD has a vacancy for an Assistant Librarian post of LMS Librarian.

Applicants should have a good honours degree and a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship or Information  Studies. Previous experience of working in systems support in an academic library environment is required. The post will be a temporary full-time appointment for three years.

Similar to Ireland’s Library Ireland Week, the day aims to be a ‘celebration of all the wonderful, inspirational, essential things that libraries do and the contribution they make to society’.

The website www.nationalibrariesday.org.uk will be live by Christmas.
