<p>ITMA is offering a mentored placement under the FÁS WPP scheme.   Working specifically in images (all formats), this will be an  opportunity for anyone with an interest in audio/visual librarianship or  digital media.</p>
<p>The successful applicant will contribute to an ongoing project of  making ITMA’s image collection digitally available to users.  Participants will gain experience in the cataloguing of still &amp;  moving images; digitising; image manipulation &amp; video editing to  prepare video &amp; images for web-publication. The candidate will gain  an overall experience of the range of services &amp; processes at work  in a multimedia archive, as well as reader service skills.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p><img class="alignright" title="logo" src="http://www.ucd.ie/cscb/main_pages/education/images/RDS_logo.jpg" alt="" width="175" height="135" />The RDS Library has approximately 100,000 books and approximately 100,000 serials in 1,500 titles.  We are seeking a qualified Librarian to join the cataloguing team in cataloguing various items such as monographs, journals and images.  Reporting to the Foundation Director, main responsibilities include:<span id="more-10641"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Creating original catalogue      records for uncatalogued and new items and checking items already      catalogued;</li>
<li>Adding Library of Congress      Subject Headings to all records;</li>
<li>Assisting in the      administration of the Cataloguing Procedures Manual;</li>
<li>Involvement in RDS events as      directed by the Foundation Director such as the Annual Dublin Horse Show.</li>
</ul>
<p>The ideal candidate will be an organised, adaptable, proactive individual who enjoys working as part of a close knit team but has the proven ability to work independently. The individual will have excellent attention to detail and proficient IT skills in Microsoft Office.</p>
<p>At least two years full-time cataloguing experience using Marc 21, AACR2,  Library of Congress Subject Headings and the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme, supported by a third level Library qualification.   The candidate will have experience using a computerised library system and databases such as Filemaker.  For a full job description please <a href="http://www.rds.ie/media/JDAL-Cataloguer20121.pdf">click here</a>.   Remuneration package available upon request.</p>

<p><strong>Oceanus Library Bursar:</strong></p>
<p>The Marine Institute has established an online <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Institutional Repository </span>which collects, preserves and makes fully and freely available Marine Institute publications, in accordance with copyright conditions.  A bursar is required to assist with a number of tasks associated with this resource.  The work will involve, collecting, organising and populating the repository with relevant publications.   In addition to the above, some work is required in the organisation of the Library Collection of books and periodicals and in providing support during a 1-week international meeting of Aquatic Science and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) database managers, which is being hosted by the Institute.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This bursary is aimed at those who are interested in Information Management and in supporting scientific researchers (i.e. those who are involved in or will be involved in trying to resolve some of today’s most important problems &#8211; climate change, protecting and conserving natural resources, dwindling fish stocks, etc.).  The successful bursar will gain practical experience in library and information management in addition to developing a broad understanding of online Institutional Archives/Repositories.  An interest in information management, marine environment/aquatic sciences is desirable, but not essential.</p>

The role holder will undertake activities which support both strands of the Department’s work – service provision through the Reading Room and curatorial activity around the collections.<span id="more-10561"></span></p>
<p>Applicants should be educated to at least A-level standard, and have an informed understanding of the history of printing, familiarity with cataloguing rules and standards (AACR2/DCRM(B), MARC21, LCSH) and experience of cataloguing using at least one automated library system. Applicants should also have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, be able to demonstrate a strong interest in reader services and have experience of working within an academic library.</p>
