FÁS eLearning at the Library – now with FETAC accreditation
The FÁS eLearning at the Library project is a partnership between the nationwide public library network, FÁS, and An Chomhairle Leabharlanna.
The programme is aimed at those who want to develop their skills in a supported workshop environment.
Since its launch in 2008 over 4,000 people have benefitted from the programme.
Following a review this year the programme is being re-launched as tutor-led sixteen-week programme which will offer learners a two hour-session per week in the supportive setting of their local public library.
The revised programme will lead to a nationally recognised FETAC award – Computer Literacy (FETAC Level 3).
In addition to the tutor-led training, participants will also have access to additional resources
- Know IT: a CD-Rom and Workbook designed for people who wish to take their first steps in learning about computers. It concentrates on practical tasks such as sending and receiving email, simple word processing and using the internet to find information. Know IT also contains a unit on computer basics and tutorials on mouse and keyboard skills.
- NALA’s Write on 4 Work (www.writeon.ie): an online course, with dedicated online support, which offers further FETAC certification across 10 individual modules including Computer Literacy, Digital Media and Internet Skills.
The new programme should be in libraries by the end of November 2011: details will be posted here.
