There are still places remaining on the ‘Church & Other Religious Sources for Irish Genealogy’ seminar being organised by the Library Association of Ireland Genealogy and Local Studies Group.

The seminar is at the National Library of Ireland on Thursday 27th October 2011 and the  fee is €30 for Library Association of Ireland Members, €40 for non-members and €20 for the unwaged. (Please note that lunch is not included in the fee.)

Jerry Griswold, Emeritus Professor of Children’s Literature at San Diego State University and the author of award-winning criticism on children’s books will give a public lecture on ”The Art of Children’s Literature Criticism’ at St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra on 19th October.

Ireland’s Laureate na nÓg, Siobhán Parkinson, will give a response.

The event will be hosted by the English Department’s Centre for Children’s Literature and Culture Studies, St Patrick’s College and will take place at 7pm in Wednesday, 19 October 2011, in room D115.

The lecture will be followed by the launch of Young Irelands, edited by Mary Shine Thompson and published by Four Courts Press.

The programme for the LAI Public Libraries’ Section’s conference ‘Books are for Life’ is now online on the LAI website.

Featuring 11 conference sessions, 18 speakers, special trade sessions, and a visit to the new Tuam library, this year’s conference offers something for all public library staff.

The Public Libraries’ Section of the LAI has announced that its 2011 annual conference will take place in Galway, running  from the evening of 2nd November to lunchtime on 4th November.

The conference theme is ‘books for life’, and among the topics to be addressed will be the future of the book, and by extension the future of ebooks, publishing, and the whole publishing and reading world.

The venue and the preliminary programme will be announced soon.

Due to the snow we have cancelled the event planned for The Ark on 6th December.

It will  be re-scheduled in 2011.
