It is being sponsored by IFLA’s Continuing Professional Education and Workplace Learning and Information Literacy Sections.<br />
The satellite conference will be held immediately prior to the World Library and Information Congress in Helsinki, Finland, August 2012. Proposals for presentations (including research reports, smaller scale interactive roundtable discussions, train-the-trainer sessions, workshops, and poster sessions) are invited. Some proposals will be considered for publication in the proceedings, which will be distributed at the Satellite Meeting.<br />
General Themes include strategies for designing and implementing a professional development information literacy program for librarians. Proposals are also invited that detail success stories/ lessons learned and explore information literacy from outside the box.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p><a rel="attachment wp-att-9616" href="http://www.library.ie/2011/08/05/lit-library-wins-e1-2m-to-lead-major-eu-project-on-information-literacy/d/"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9616" style="margin: 5px; border: 2px solid black;" src="http://www.library.ie/wp-content/uploads/ec-TEMPUS_en12.jpg" alt="" width="121" height="128" /></a>LIT Library has recently received the great news from the EU Executive Agency (EACEA) that its application for funding under the <a href="http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/tempus/">Tempus IV</a> EU funding programme was successful to the sum of €1,171,557.  The securing of this funding is a triple distinction for Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).  LIT is the first Irish institution to lead a Tempus project in the history of the Tempus programme.<br />
The project will be managed by Jerald Cavanagh- Institute Librarian, Limerick Institute of Technology on behalf of the Steering Committee and coordinated by Padraig Kirby- Tempus Project Coordinator/Acting Senior Library Assistant, Limerick Institute of Technology.<br />
It is also the largest sum ever awarded for a Library and Information Science project in the history of the programme and finally LIT have the distinction of leading and implementing the first project dealing with Information Literacy in the history of   programme.<br />
<span id="more-9607"></span>Tempus is the European Union’s programme which supports the modernisation of higher education in the Partner Countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region, mainly through university cooperation projects. LIT Library will lead a project involving 12 other higher education institutions in Romania, Greece, United Kingdom, Albania, Bosnia &amp; Herzegovina, Montenegro &amp; Kosovo to develop Information Literacy (IL) for lifelong learning and knowledge economy in Western Balkan countries.<br />
The project will see the development of IL programs for lifelong learning and their use in curricula, development of innovative online IL modules for lifelong learning and the harmonisation of the IL programs with those currently active in Western Balkan countries. The project aims to strengthen the capacities of higher education institutions in the Western Balkans for the strategic planning and implementation of IL programs to instill transferable skills for a competitive, dynamic, knowledge-based economy.<br />
This is not the first time LIT Library have been successful in securing EU funding for Library projects and in 2010 and 2011 they were successful in securing funding under the Grundtvig Lifelong Learning Programme.</p>

Monday and Tuesday will take place at the British Library and Wednesday at the LSE.<br />

This award is being made on a once-off basis.  It is open to an individual or group working in the IL arena, and in any sector, in the Republic of Ireland.<br />
Nominations for this award are now open.  We welcome nominations from all sectors.  Individuals or groups may self-nominate or colleagues may nominate individuals or groups whom they consider have demonstrated innovation in the field of Information Literacy.<br />
Applications will be assessed on one or more of the following:  <span id="more-4204"></span><br />
•	Raising the profile of information literacy within your organisation<br />
•	Developing a system/course/programme/service, or product which develops information literacy skills<br />
•	Evidence of impact<br />
•	Nominations should demonstrate innovation, initiative and originality<br />
Nominations should take the form of a short description of the project or initiative (no more than 3 x A4 pages);<br />
Contact details of the nominator and the nominee should be provided;<br />
Supporting documentation, URLs etc. should be supplied.<br />
Closing date for receipt of nominations:  Friday, 26 February, 2010<br />
The winner will receive an award of €500 towards training and development activities.  The award will be presented to the winner or, in the case of a team, their nominee, at the LILAC 2010 conference dinner in Limerick on Tuesday 30 March 2010.<br />
