If you received a higher diploma or graduate diploma in Information and Library Studies at UCD, you now have the opportunity to apply your prior course work towards a Master’s in Information and Library Studies (MLIS) degree.
If you successfully passed your higher diploma or graduate diploma courses, you need only complete 15 credits of course work and a 30 credit capstone project to earn a MLIS. The course work may include two 7.5 credit courses in research methods, or another combination of courses. We are planning to offer one research method course each semester during late afternoons, one afternoon per week. You can do this as a part-time student over the course of 12 months.
The application process has two steps:
(1)  Apply online to the MLIS part time programme through the UCD online system at http://www.ucd.ie/apply. Please indicate in application that you wish to be a part-time MLIS student upgrading from a higher or graduate diploma to a MLIS.
(2)  Complete the Accreditation of Prior Learning: Certificated Learning Application Form available at http://www.ucd.ie/registry/academicsecretariat/pol.htm This form should be sent to Claire Nolan, SILS school administrator at claire.nolan@ucd.ie or Claire Nolan, UCD School of Information and Library Studies, UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4.
Both steps must be completed no later than July 1 each year. The School of Information and Library Studies accepts qualified applicants until all student places are filled.
After you are offered a place in the MLIS part-time programme you will be required to pay a €500 deposit to hold your place in the programme. You will officially be granted credit for your higher or graduate diploma courses after you register as a student in the autumn semester.
This is the first time the School of Information and Library Studies has offered a mechanism by which professionals who previously earned a higher diploma or graduate diploma in information and library studies can “upgrade” their degree to a MLIS degree.
The MLIS degree is the most widely recognised professional degree in information and library science. Our MLIS degree is accredited by the Library Association Ireland with reciprocal accreditation by other professional library associations globally.

The John Campbell Trust was established as an independent charitable trust through the bequest of the late Dr John Campbell, an early member of the Institute of Information Scientists. It is administered by a body of Trustees under the chairmanship of Adrienne Muir. Its purpose is to further the education and development of information professionals through grants, scholarships, research or travel awards, and thereby to enhance the knowledge and experience of the information community as a whole.
The Trust currently offers three types of award:

The John Campbell Scholarship

is intended to help support a full-time student on a postgraduate programme, taught or research, in a UK or Irish higher education institution.

The John Campbell Conference/Travel Bursary

is intended to help an information professional based in the UK or Ireland to attend a conference or undertake a programme of travel.

The John Campbell Dissertation Bursary

is intended to help a UK or Ireland-based student on a taught course (undergraduate or postgraduate) in information or library studies to undertake a specific dissertation project.

Opportunity for Library/Information Studies Graduate.
The Marine Institute is currently recruiting a Library and Information Stagiaire. This position provides an excellent training opportunity for a recent graduate (last 2 years) with a minimum of an Honours Degree, Masters or Graduate Diploma in Information/Library Studies, wishing to gain quality work experience in a library environment. Work experience is provided for a maximum period up to 50 weeks on a fixed term, fixed purpose Graduate Training contract with a stipend of €21,850 per annum pro rated with time worked.

Applications are invited from candidates who would like to undertake a three-year funded PhD studentship within the Institute for Informatics and Digital Innovation at Edinburgh Napier University in the UK. The Institute comprises five research centres, of which the Centre for Social Informatics is one.
The Centre for Social Informatics (and the International Teledemocracy Centre which is based within the Centre) undertakes research across a range of areas including the information society, knowledge management, library and information science, project management, social computing, e-government and e-democracy.
We are particularly interested in applicants who would like to pursue research that overlaps in interest with the work of one or more of the other four research centres within the Institute.
