The libraries of Trinity College, UCD and the National Library have announced plans to develop a shared storage facility to accommodate the urgent storage needs of their collections, as well as the longer-term needs of Irish research libraries in general.
The libraries have secured $50,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, to support the planning process.
Announcing the move, the libraries say:
The new facility would accommodate vast collections of books, manuscripts, maps, audio recordings, early printed books and other valuable materials of historical and cultural value which are currently at risk due to inadequate or inappropriate storage space.

After many years, the National Library of Ireland’s SHOP will close its doors for the last time on Friday 15th July.
Everything must go, so make sure to stop by and pick up some fantastic books while stocks last. Here is just a small selection of items in the sale.

The National Library has announced changes to its opening hours to deal with ‘increased demand and fewer staff’.

In addition to the new hours, the Library has announced that readers will be able to order books, microfilm,  etc. in advance, so that the items will be ready on arrival at the reading rooms.

Following on the last highly successful collection of Election ephemera  the National Library of Ireland is appealing again to anyone who would be willing to collect same and forward to either of the addresses listed below when the elections are over.
The National Library is seeking posters, flyers, leaflets, brochures, stickers, rosettes and any other printed material that is distributed (occasionally there are paper hats and other miscellaneous material).
It may also be a useful method for those with Local Studies Collections under their control to collect material for local collections.
