Music for the terrified

The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres United Kingdom & Ireland Branch (IAML UK & Irl) is pleased to present: Music for the terrified: your fears dispelled, Thursday November 26 2009 at The British Library, Boston Spa from 10.00am-16.45pm.
Cost: £77 (Euro 85) per person / IAML members £55 (Euro 61) / Students £30 (Euro 33), including lunch, tea and coffee. Discount for 3 or more bookings from one institution.
This is a day course designed for anyone working with music in libraries who feels they lack basic music knowledge. The emphasis will be on dealing with and understanding ‘classical’ music, but there will be the opportunity to carry out exercises in all kinds of music enquiry work. A tour of the British Library Document Supply Centre will also be included.

By the end of the, day participants will:
-be able to identify common terminology used in music enquiries -be able to identify the types of material required by different types of user -have some knowledge of sources of information for music enquiries -have a better understanding of what is expected of staff working in a music library.
Sessions will include: terminology (music genres, keys, types of score, etc.), music in library catalogues, music enquiries and information sources (printed and electronic), and practical exercises.
NB: It may be possible to arrange transport from York railway station if there is sufficient demand. Please indicate if this is of interest when you make your booking.
