Opportunity for Library/Information Studies Graduate.
The Marine Institute is currently recruiting a Library and Information Stagiaire. This position provides an excellent training opportunity for a recent graduate (last 2 years) with a minimum of an Honours Degree, Masters or Graduate Diploma in Information/Library Studies, wishing to gain quality work experience in a library environment. Work experience is provided for a maximum period up to 50 weeks on a fixed term, fixed purpose Graduate Training contract with a stipend of €21,850 per annum pro rated with time worked.

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Information and Library Studies, located within the UCD School of Information and Library Studies. An appointment will be offered on either a temporary 5-year or permanent basis.
The appointed Lecturer will teach within the School and contribute significantly to the quality expansion of research in one or more of the following areas:
Metadata, information technology design and evaluation, computer-supported cooperative work, health science informatics, human information behavior, management in information organizations, information retrieval, digital libraries, information architecture, classification, information literacy, and/or related topics regarding the interplay of people, information, technology and social structures.
S/he will also be required to participate effectively in the School’s graduate and undergraduate programmes and to contribute to the academic life of the School, College and University.

Individuals interested in disaster management are sought for Intra-European Fellowship applications for post-doctoral or visiting researcher positions to work at the University College Dublin (UCD) in Dublin, Ireland. Candidates with a dual background in information science and computing, and who are interested in the interplay of people, information, technology and social structures in the context of emergency response, are particularly encouraged to apply. The envisioned project relates to outlining the ideal characteristics for the development of new information systems for real-time emergency response management.
These prestigious EU fellowships have salaries that begin at €56,400 plus a mobility allowance and training stipend. They are for a period of 12-24 months and are anticipated to begin in summer 2011.
- Candidates must be in possession of the Ph.D.s by 1 August 2010 (as verified by their university’s registrar) and have highly competitive academic credentials
- All nationalities welcome, but the candidate must currently be residing in an EU member country of affiliated state (e.g., Turkey, Switzerland, Israel)
- Irish candidates can apply, if they have been out of Ireland for 36 months
- Non-Irish candidates currently living in Ireland can also apply, if they have not been in Ireland for more than 11 months as of 1 August2010.

Applications are invited from candidates who would like to undertake a three-year funded PhD studentship within the Institute for Informatics and Digital Innovation at Edinburgh Napier University in the UK. The Institute comprises five research centres, of which the Centre for Social Informatics is one.
The Centre for Social Informatics (and the International Teledemocracy Centre which is based within the Centre) undertakes research across a range of areas including the information society, knowledge management, library and information science, project management, social computing, e-government and e-democracy.
We are particularly interested in applicants who would like to pursue research that overlaps in interest with the work of one or more of the other four research centres within the Institute.
