Paul Perry is Writer in Residence for 2008

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Public Library Service is proud to announce poet Paul Perry as its Writer in Residence for 2008. Paul will be running creative writing workshops in Deansgrange Library from Tuesday 21st October, 6pm to 8pm. Workshops will continue fortnightly until Christmas. Creative writing workshops for children will be held in the new year. Paul will also be available to offer one-to-one support to aspiring writers and will be hosting a creative writing blog, check www.dlrcoco.ie/library for further details.

Autumn series of Library Voices is coming to…..

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Public Library service is proud to host the DLR Library Voices series. The library service has a long and rich tradition of cultural programming and this series is part of our mission to present great literary names to the community.

Following the hugely successful launch of “DLR Library Voices” in spring, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Library Service continues the series this autumn with a fascinating line-up of events.

All events are staged in County Hall in an informal and intimate setting. Tickets, priced €5, are available in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Library Branches. Further information on the schedule of events is available in DLR branch libraries and on the DLR Library website.

DLR Library Voices

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Library Service expands its rich tradition of cultural programming with a new literary initiative – the DLR Library Voices series of author readings.
Readings will be staged in County Hall and will feature a broad range of Irish and international authors, beginning on Monday 28 April at 7pm.
The initial series will run from April to June 2008, and will feature six major authors:
The first DLR Library Voice, Jodi Picoult, is a firm favourite with Irish readers. Her first novel, Songs of the Humpback Whale was written in 1992, since when she has won innumerable awards. She will read from her newest novel, Change of Heart.
DLR Library Voices will continue with Joseph O’Connor and Julia Kelly on 22 May. O’Connor’s magnificent Star of the Sea is now followed by his new book Redemption Falls which is short-listed in the 2008 Irish Book Awards. Julia Kelly also features in the Awards short-list in the Irish Newcomer category for With My Lazy Eye.
Local favourite Hugo Hamilton will read from his eagerly anticipated new novel, Disguise, on 5 June. Hamilton’s wonderful memoir of growing up in nearby Glasthule, The Speckled People, became a massive international bestseller.
On 17th June, DLR Library Voices presents John Boyne, whose The Boy in Striped Pyjamas was awarded The Tubridy Show Listeners’ Choice Award last year. On 24 June, UNICEF Ireland Ambassador and best selling author Cathy Kelly will be in conversation with Kathryn Holmquist.
