William Butler Yeats’s creativity and legacy is celebrated in the National Library of Ireland’s Summer’s Wreath Festival from June 2nd – 30th, 2010. The month-long public programme of events in conjunction with the Library’s current exhibition Yeats: the Life & Works of William Butler Yeats, will include readings, reflections, lectures, recitals and leading names reflecting on his life and his poetry.

National Heritage Week will run from 21st – 29th August 2010. The aim of the week is to build awareness of our built, natural and cultural heritage to encourage its conservation and preservation.
Each year over 1000 events take place nationwide, all of which help to promote Ireland’s rich and diverse heritage. Events range from medieval fairs, wildlife walks, horticultural workshops, lectures on every topic, to classical music and poetry recitals, traditional music sessions, storytelling, archaeological digs, historic re-enactments and traditional kills workshops.

To ensure inclusion in the National Heritage Week event guide all registrations must be submitted no later than 31st May 2010. Registrations submitted after this date will be listed on www.heritageweek.ie only.

Public Libraries in every county and city are getting ready for the Bord Gáis Energy READISCOVER Your Local Library Week which kicks off on in Cork on 17th April.
Brent Pope, Ambassador for the week, will pay a visit to Bishopstown library on Saturday, and Brent will also be in Castlebar Library, Dundalk Library, and Waterford City Library during the week.
Tallaght Library is hosting author Colm McCann in interview with John Kelly, while Dundalk will host Deirdre Purcell and Dermot Bolger.

NALA is hosting a Family Literacy event on Wednesday 19 May in All Hallows College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9. The title of the event is ‘Listening to parents: building curriculum in family learning’. The event is aimed at family literacy coordinators, tutors, ALOs, literacy resource workers, home school liaison teachers/officers, family resource centre employees etc.
The cost of the event is €30 to NALA members, €60 to non-members.
